3 takeaways from the Golden State Warriors’ impressive win over Memphis Grizzlies
Just a few weeks earlier, this team lit up the Warriors, and they wanted to start the road trip strong. They succeeded in doing so,
letting the visitors win 121-101 thanks to a strong 36-28 closing frame.
Despite still being without a number of rotation players, the Golden State Warriors’ teamwork was crucial to their victory over the
Memphis Grizzlies.
Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, two of Golden State’s younger players, took the lead early on and had an impact in the
team’s 20-point victory. Let’s examine three crucial elements from the game:
1. Deep In the Rotation
With regard to his rotation in the first quarter, Steve Kerr made some intriguing choices. Coach Kerr had to delve deep into his bench
since Dario Saric was out sick and Chris Paul, Gary Payton, and Moses Moody were still out. Lester Quinones, who continued to
receive some lengthy work against veteran Cory Joseph with some points and outstanding playmaking,
and Gui Santos both made appearances in the first quarter.
This seems noteworthy, considering Chris Paul and Gary Payton are still far from returning.
Will we see more of Quinones and Santos moving forward?
2. Jonathan Kuminga Continues Hot Streak
For the past seven games, Kuminga has been on fire, and Friday was no exception. With seven games played, Kuminga has averaged
25 points per game, making him an invincible player ahead of the trade deadline.
The confidence and swag has been unmatched for the 21-year-old who erupted for a 13-point second quarter against the Grizzlies.
Kuminga finished the night with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in another monster game that included some incredible
highlights; Kuminga has hit his stride and could take this team to another level.
3. Podziemski’s career-high
A little congratulations to Podziemski, who played one of his best games ever.
Brandin supported his selection to take part in the
Rising Stars Challenge during all-star weekend with a performance that included a career-high 14 assists, 12 points, and 7 rebounds.
After Kuminga, he played the second-most minutes on the squad and maintained his strong rookie year.
With their game against the Hawks tomorrow night in Atlanta,
the Warriors have no time to relax. It’s usually difficult to go back-to-
back on the road; expect them to rely on the inexperience of the younger Warriors players.
