When the competition restarts in the Europa League, Philippe Clement will not have several players in his Rangers side.

The absence of deputy Ridvan Yilmaz and the exclusion of Borna Barisic from the squad crippled the Gers during the group stage.

When Michael Beale was in charge at Ibrox back in August, teams were had to announce their 25-man rosters.

A few players may be left off the roster because of Rangers’ large roster, but not all players will be changed before the knockout stages.

During Friday’s weekly press conference on February 2, Philippe Clement responded,

“I had discussions with players about that this

afternoon because I am not happy with the rule,” when asked if he already knew what adjustments he intended to make.I get the

premise, but the rule is the regulation for every team. When the European list was first announced

at the beginning of the season, I was not quite on board.

“It was also what it is. I can only make three changes. That will create a few players I wanted on the list cannot be. That’s a reality.”

Europa League squad rule

To a certain sense, the UEFA decision is absurd; Clement’s takeover in October serves as a prime example.

A few months ago, his predecessor took a decision that prevented the Belgian from calling upon Ridvan.

For the purpose of argument, a club should be allowed to use any member of their 50-man roster.

Teams currently have to choose 25 players this month—not including players with local

training—before moving on to the knockout stages.

If Ridvan stays, he’ll be added to the squad and Sam Lammers will be sent to the bench. Perhaps one or two of the recent acquisitions will be overlooked.

In that sense, Clement faces a difficult choice, but he has previously demonstrated that, when necessary, he is capable of making significant choices.

If nothing more, this implies that each player will now put forth their utmost effort to guarantee their spot on the European team.

In other Rangers news, Clement’s remarks suggest that the team’s transfer market may not be finished yet.
