If he receives international clearance, Oscar Cortes may make his Rangers debut this weekend against Livingston, according to Luke Shanley.

Following the confirmation of the young player’s arrival, the Sky Sports reporter live reported on February 1 that Philippe Clement

might include him in the starting lineup for the SPFL match at Ibrox on February 3.

He joins Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande as winter additions to Philippe Clement’s Light Blues squad.

“I can confirm that Oscar Cortes has signed with Rangers on a loan from Lens in France, with the option to buy,” Shanley stated. The

20-year-old winger has previously represented Colombia in international competition; in June, he was capped against Iraq.

“He will definitely be a part of that Rangers squad, and if he receives international clearance,

he might make his debut this weekend at Ibrox against Livingston.”

Fast start

Considering Clement’s injury concerns, it would be advantageous if his last reinforcement was available right immediately.

The fact that the winger’s deal was only finalized so close to the deadline will be frustrating because the move was anticipated

throughout the last week, especially if he doesn’t receive international clearance in time.

Since Abdallah Sima is expected to be out for some time, Cortes is expected to be crucial in covering for the Brighton loanee.

Despite the disappointing loss to Celtic, Rangers have gained some positive momentum under their second manager of the year, so

keeping it up is obviously crucial.

With Sima now gone for the season and Danilo and Kemar Roofe all down, the team appears to be lacking in striker alternatives if one

does not arrive during this transfer window.

It would be foolish to place your expectations of winning any more hardware this year on the unsatisfactory but developing Cyriel

Dessers, two inexperienced but capable young players on loan in Cortes and Silva, and a few unreliable or unskilled other attackers

like Ross McCausland and Rabbi Matondo.

Therefore, if they succeed, it would indicate that despite unforeseen circumstances, the season has been excellent.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Rangers have signed a new contract today in other team news.
