Glasgow Rangers would only consider selling Jack Butland on Deadline Day for a “crazy figure” of £20 million, according to Derek Ferguson.

The former Rangers star stated it would be a “scary thought” to lose the “absolutely phenomenal” England goalkeeper,

whom he rates higher than Three Lions number one Jordan Pickford.

On Wednesday (January 31), STV reported that Nottingham Forest had enquired about Butland,

while the Daily Record suggested another unnamed Premier League club was interested in the 30-year-old.

Butland joined Ibrox on a free transfer in the summer,

and Ferguson considers him one of the best goalkeepers to have ever played for the club,

believing that only a massive bid would be considered for a deadline-busting sell.

Speaking to Ibrox News, he stated, “Don’t go there!

“We got Butland for free. Now I’m saying, and this is simply based on his performances this season,

which have been absolutely outstanding, but it’s not just his performances; it’s also the way he behaves himself.

“He has a stature about him, he has that presence that you look for in a goalkeeper,

the fans adore him, I’m talking nearly £20 million before you even consider it, I’m telling you, he’s that good.”

“I’ll tell you what: he’s better than Pickford. I’m dead serious,

and we’ve been extremely blessed in recent years to have top-tier goalkeepers such as Andy Goram and Allan McGregor,

and Butland falls into that category.

“He comes from Manchester United, and we’ll get the greatest years out of him as well.

He’s at an excellent age, and keepers only improve with age.

“I watch the highlights of English games, and he’s been absolutely phenomenal,

and it’s actually a scary thought that we could lose him.

I know money talks, which is why I’ve come up with that crazy figure of £20 million;

I believe if someone came in for £10 million or more,

they’d have to look into it because it would be tremendous business.

“But how can you close that gap? I know we have McCrorie, who is frequently in the Scotland team,

but I believe he is a level above everyone else in our category.

“I think he should be at least in that England squad for the Euros. It’s everything about him,

it’s not just what he does in the game, it’s the whole package and that’s why the fans love him and he gets the fans.

“He gets the club; this has happened to many English players who have joined Rangers.

The Butchers, the Chris Woods, the Ray Wilkins, the Trevor Francis’,

something happens when you visit Rangers Football Club, for whatever reason they enjoy it.

“The fans love Jack Butland, and Jack Butland loves playing for Rangers, long may it continue.”
