Rangers transfer deadline day latest: state of play regarding Cortes move and Dessers exit links
Since Mohamed Dimonade and Fabio Silva arrived at Ibrox during the first transfer window,
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has had a successful one.
Oscar Cortes, a prospect from Colombia, is expected to be added by the Light Blues to their roster,
making the Gers one of the busiest clubs in the division on deadline day.
The RC Lens winger travelled back to Europe earlier this week having been granted
permission to leave his nation’s U23 camp in Venezuela.
Rangers officials hope to finalize the young player’s loan transfer today; the agreement is expected to include a buyout option in the
summer. After spending £4 million to join Lens in the summer, Cortes has played in just four
league games and scored one goal in the past six months.
Despite rumors of returning to Italy, departing striker Cryriel Dessers is anticipated to stay
at Ibrox past the January transfer deadline.
Desserts arrived at Rangers during the summer transfer window for a fee of around £4m. The Nigerian has just started to show signs
of promise after an initial slow start, but has still caught the interest of both Torino and Hellas
Verona as they battle to avoid the drop from the Italian top-flight.
The Daily Record has learned that Verona, which had been interested in signing Dessers, has shifted their focus to other strikers,
including Andre Silva of Real Sociedad and Karol Swiderski of Charlotte FC. Torino has withdrawn
from the competition to sign Dessers.
After learning of Abdallah Sima’s injury during the Africa Cup of Nations, Dessers—who has eight goals in 19 league games this season
—is anticipated to play a bigger part in the upcoming months.
