Rangers have been linked with a surprise January move for out-of-contract left-back
Glasgow Rangers have been linked with a surprise January transfer for Livingston’s out-of-contract left-back James Penrice.
The Gers have been closely connected with a number of left-back alternatives this transfer window,
with Galatasaray reportedly interested in Ridvan Yilmaz.
A deal for reported number one left-back target Jefte, Fluminense’s 20-year-old Brazilian option,
has been postponed until the summer due to a dispute with loan club APOEL Nicosia.
Rangers have now been connected to James Penrice, a Scottish Premiership option,
according to transfer reports, which would undoubtedly stir heads at Ibrox.

Gers are reportedly eyeing a late January move for James Penrice,
the 25-year-old left-back whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Both Hearts and Hibs, who have been heavily linked as potential suitors in the press,
are thought to be interested in a January trade.
According to the source, several English Championship clubs have showed interest in Penrice,
who is free to negotiate terms elsewhere.
According to HITC, James Penrice is seen as a low-cost left-back alternative by the Ibrox club,
and he may also be utilized to boost the club’s homegrown quota in Europe.
Ridvan Yilmaz was not featured in the club’s Europa League roster for the first half of the season due to concerns with homegrown registration regulations.
Livingston manager claims left-back is going nowhere.
While the links may be first disappointing to Rangers fans, James Penrice is a seasoned campaigner in the Scottish competition.
After making 115 appearances for Partick Thistle, the defender has gone on to make over 100 more with Livingston and is regarded as a talented and reliable option.
Livingston manager Davie Martindale has spoken to the press regarding James Penrice’s predicament and claims the left-back will receive multiple bids in the summer.
The Livingston manager has also stated that the defender will not be leaving the Tony Macaroni in this window.
“I think James will have a few options this summer,” said Martindale. “I believe he has been one of our standout performers this season, despite a difficult season. believe he has the potential to play at a much higher level, and he will have options this summer.
“That’s sort of where we are. He is not leaving Livingston in this window. The best solution for all parties would be a pre-contract abroad, followed by a transfer and loan back to Livingston to ensure his services for the club, but that appears unlikely.
The situation with Jefte has placed doubt on Galatasaray’s Ridvan Yilmaz links, while Borna Barisic is Rangers’ other left-back options.
