Glasgow Rangers have reached a Deadline Day agreement with Jefte to arrive at Ibrox at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking live on his Kick broadcast on February 1,

the Italian journalist revealed that after days of “fighting” over a transfer for the Fluminense defender,

who is now on loan at APOEL in Cyprus,

they had lined him up for the summer after reaching an agreement verbally.

The Light Blues were thought to have agreed on a permanent transfer with the Brazilian’s parent club earlier in the January window,

but his loan side demanded the same fee to end the temporary contract.

Romano said (7.58pm): “Jefte, the Fluminense left-back on loan to APOEL Nicosia,

who was on the verge of joining Rangers, basically the deal was done.

“Then it crumbled because APOEL Nicosia refused to terminate the loan and release the player.

“So, after three or four days of lobbying for this green light,

Rangers now have a verbal agreement in place to sign Jefte during the summer transfer window.

“So the Brazilian left-back will most likely join Rangers in the summer,

after returning to Fluminense and being eligible for a trade.

So, not right now, but in the summer, a very interesting left-back for the Rangers.”

Will have to do.

Left-back has been a question point at Ibrox for months,

with Ridvan Yilmaz in and out and Borna Barisic’s defensive ability frequently questioned.

The Turkish international has been pursued for a move throughout the current window,

and after coming close to joining Hellas Verona, Galatasaray has made a proposal for him.

It will be difficult to let him go now that the man scheduled to take

his place in the squad has been delayed by at least five months.

Deals have been completed in both directions, but it appears that the left-back and striker,

who appeared to be priority priorities when the market opened, will have to wait.
