Oscar Cortes, the RC Lens forward, has arrived at Rangers to undertake medical tests ahead of his deadline-day move to Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.

According to the Scottish news outlet (31 January), the 20-year-old has been given plenty of motivation to extend

his stay after Gers chiefs dangled a bumper agreement in front of him that runs until the summer of 2028.

The Light Blues are reported to have negotiated a condition that will allow them to sign Cortes permanently in the summer if he performs well for Philippe Clement’s side.

Cortes has only made four appearances in France,

but the Gers believe he has all the tools to settle in and make an impact at Ibrox despite his unremarkable season thus far.

There is no doubt the Colombian winger is a great product; otherwise,

Rangers and Clement wouldn’t be moving to sign him; nevertheless,

the uphill battle is getting him to speed in time to make the quick effect he needs to seal permanent move.

Cortes may struggle to settle and acclimatise himself after only four games this season,

but the Gers are optimistic he will, making this agreement rather risky.

However, it is evident Clement needs attacking reinforcements before the window closed and Cortes given

his quality and potential is a risk worth taking indeed, as if every previous transfer at Ibrox.

Clement prefers to play with wingers in his team,

and the Belgian isn’t exactly spoiled for options in those positions right now,

especially with Abdallah Sima out for an extended period of time due to an injury sustained at the African Cup of Nations.

Hopefully, Cortes can get into the starting lineup and compete with

the likes of Rabbi Matondo and Scott Wright for a place out wide in the Gers’ team week in and week out.

That bumper four-year contract is lying in wait for him. There may not be a better incentive.
