Insider drops exciting behind the scenes striker claim for Rangers fans on deadline day
Late in the January transfer window, an intriguing Rangers transfer claim has surfaced, thanks to Gers insider The Fourth Official.
Shankland contract update: Philippe Clement will be eager to finalize some last-minute deals on Thursday, putting his team in a
strong position to beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership this season. A number of players have been backed to move to Ibrox this month, but not much has been done as of yet, with Fabio Silva being the most high-profile arrival on loan from Wolves.
Given the possibility of Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic leaving in the near future, left-back has appeared to be a position where
Rangers is genuinely focused, and Jefte, a defender for Fluminense, has been one of the position’s standout targets. But a deal is now
regarded as off, which is a serious setback for the Gers.
While Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland has been frequently linked to a move to Rangers as they search for a new goalscorer, Oscar
Cortes is another player who has been closely watched, with a move appearing to be close to being completed for days now.
Despite interest from both Glasgow clubs, the Hearts forward now looks very likely to stay at Tynecastle, as the most recent contract
update on Shankland indicates his current employers have placed a time limit on their previous offer. With just 18 months left on the
new deal, time is of the essence, and it appears that there is not much happening to make a dramatic departure on deadline day.
Insider makes Rangers striker claim
Although Rangers News has quoted insider The Fourth Official as saying that Rangers are still looking to sign a new striker and are
working hard behind the scenes “despite the pessimism” and contract claims out of Hearts, it appears that the pursuit of Shankland or
someone of a similar caliber isn’t over just yet.
“Rangers are looking for a striker and despite the pessimism, I think there is a real chance that one is landed before the transfer
window ends.” This is encouraging to hear, even though Rangers are obviously short on time. If they can sign a striker on Thursday, it
might make the difference between them winning the title this season and not.
With 14 goals this season, Shankland leads the SPL goalscoring charts at age 28, making him the clear choice to join the Scottish
powerhouses. Of all the names on the roster, he is perhaps the most obvious choice. In addition, Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes,
who had trouble making an impression at Pittodrie, has praised his qualities and character:
He’s performed exceptionally well. Sometimes moving backward is necessary in order to advance. Lawrence and his family are people
I know very well. We continue to communicate.
“He acknowledged that he failed in this situation. He still had a lot of maturing and introspection to do, but he has put in a ton of
work. He was a goal scorer even when he was on the development team. Though he has improved his physical and mental toughness,
he has always been a capable goal scorer.
