A deadline-day move for Lawrence Shankland now looks to be off for Rangers, with his chances of leaving Hearts in the coming hours now “minimal”
On February 1, the newspaper wrote on its website that, while there has been much chatter about a prospective relocation, nothing has come from Ibrox, while it was also said to never say never in the final hours.
Possible moves to English Championship sides have also been discussed, but according to Hearts, no club has called to inquire about Shankland this month.
Anything can happen.
While no calls have been fielded yet at Hearts, it’s not uncommon to see panic set in in the final hours of the transfer market, and with Rangers still seeking for a new striker this month, a late deal might still be on the cards despite the minimal chances.
Despite the club’s transfer priorities, Shankland appears unlikely to join Mohamed Diomande and Fabio Silva at Ibrox before 11 p.m. tonight.
According to the Daily Record, there had been no indication of interest from Ibrox, and the ties appeared to stem from Rangers’ need for a striker, with Shankland providing the greatest option for that position.
Hearts’ objective this month was to keep the SPFL top-scorer at Tynecastle, and it appears they may have succeeded, though if Rangers do follow up on their rumored interest with a late bid to sign him, it will certainly be one to watch.
