What Rangers supporters can expect on deadline day: transfer state of play on Cortes, Jefte and Cifuentes
Although Rangers manager Philippe Clement is somewhat happy with his January transfer activity thus far, he will still want to bring
in at least two more players before the transfer market ends on Thursday at 11.30 p.m.
Early on, the Ibrox team signed Portuguese striker Fabio Silva on a loan from Premier League team Wolves, and the player has
adapted to his new surroundings. Midfielder Mohamed Diomande, who is initially on loan from FC Nordsjaelland with a buyout
obligation of approximately £4.5 million in the summer, trailed him through the door.
The Ivorian came in Scotland earlier this week after being granted a work permit.
Clement and Gers’ new director of football recruitment Nils Koppen continue to work on other targets with a left-back, a wide player
and a striker still on the club’s wish list. The recruitment team are still looking to finalise deals for Brazilian full-back Jefte from
Fluminense and Colombian winger Oscar Cortes from French side RC Lens.
Clement and Nils Koppen, the new head of football recruitment for the Gers, are still working on other targets, which include a left-
back, a wide player, and a striker. Oscar Cortes, a Colombian winger for RC Lens in France, and Brazilian full-back Jefte of
Fluminense are still being finalized by the recruitment staff.
Currently on loan at APOEL Nicosia, defenseman Jefte is able to depart the Cypriot club early after to an agreement reached last week
between the parties. The 20-year-old, it has now been stated, has vanished from sight
and hasn’t communicated with his loan club in FIVE DAYS.
After traveling to Glasgow this afternoon, attacker Cortes is getting closer to completing his transfer to Rangers. Since moving from his
childhood club, Millonarios, to the Ligue 1 team in the summer, he has only mustered four substitute appearances. After a medical, he
will likely sign a contract that will see him through the summer, after which the Glasgow giants will have the option to purchase him,
but the exact cost is still unknown. Rangers have, however, given Brazilian
club Cruzeiro’s authorization to communicate with Jose Cifuentes, a center midfielder. Only in the summer did the Ecuadorian
international sign a four-year contract with Glasgow FC, having previously played for Los Angeles FC under Michael Beale. Having
fallen short of expectations thus far, it was revealed last week that Rizespor, of the Turkish Super Lig, had reached an agreement to
sign him on a first loan, with a £2 million option to buy the player in the summer.
Cifuentes, though, wasn’t thrilled about going to Turkey.
