Rangers want to sign Scotland gem, transfer could be well over £1m – report Ibrox News
Rangers aim to complete Callan McKenna’s deal at Ibrox, causing Manchester United to flip.
The Scottish Sun claims that although numerous teams are interested in Queen’s Park prospect Callan McKenna, a transfer appears
doubtful. Rangers is one of those teams.
Via its live blog on January 31, 1:01 p.m., the newspaper said that the homegrown goalkeeper will have to select between three Premier
League teams, with Manchester United leading the competition.
It is believed that Queen’s Park will get at least £350,000 from the sale of McKenna, with several add-ons, such as first-team
experience and international caps, potentially pushing the price well over £1 million.
The 17-year-old has drawn interest from Celtic, Rangers, Brighton, Southampton, and Burnley,
in addition to Manchester City andArsenal.
Losing out
With 25-year-old Robby McCrorie and 23-year-old Kieran Wright not being able to earn a look-in under Philippe Clement, the Gers
are already well-stocked in goalkeeping at Ibrox.
Being one of Britain’s most sought-after young goalkeepers, McKenna would be a huge coup for any European team. But when it
comes to bringing in new players, it is difficult to compete with teams like Manchester United.
A youthful star like McKenna will often always be enthralled by the bright lights of Old Trafford, which is why a move to Ibrox seems
improbable right now.
Having lost to a Scotland U19 international who earned his first cap at the age of 16 from Billy Stark, there will still be a great shame at
Ibrox. Still, a young player has a tough decision when faced with a possible transfer fee of more than £1 million.
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have been forced to consider an unforeseen last-minute departure option due to a change at
Celtic.
