Rangers stand to make ‘Massive’ profit as billionaire-owned club attempt to sign player – report
Rangers are in line to turn a “massive” profit by the sale of goalkeeper Jack Butland to Nottingham Forest, per the Daily Record.
The newspaper said in its print version on January 31, page 50, that Gers do not wish to sell the Englishman before the deadline.
Rangers would surely benefit financially from selling a player they signed on a free transfer.
Forest appears to be willing to pay a high charge,
which is why the term “massive” profit has been used.
However, with less than 48 hours till the transfer window ends,
Philippe Clement will not want to do that.
January is spent strengthening the team and filling weaknesses in order to make them competitive enough to challenge Celtic for the league title.
They are already catching up to their rivals in terms of points,
and the fans do not want to see Celtic win the title again this season.
Hopefully, Forest will not return with a large bid,
but it appears that they have left it too late for Gers to consider entering the negotiations.
They’re owned by Evangelos Marinakis,
a billionaire, so money is not going to be an issue.
Also Rangers
Sky Sports reported on January 5 that both Rangers and Celtic were interested in the 27-year-old,
who was available on an initial loan agreement at the City Ground before his contract expired at the end of the season.
Swing and miss.
It is unclear whether Rangers’ interest in McKenna progressed beyond the first claims,
but it appears that the Forest centre-back will not join the club before the transfer deadline.
While Philippe Clement would have undoubtedly wanted to have added to his centre-back options this month,
the Belgian has more important issues to address with in the January window,
including strengthening his midfield and adding to his wide options.
