Serie A powerhouse Lazio made an attempt to sign Morgan Whittaker, a Michael Beale Rangers target, but Plymouth Argyle turned them down.

This week, the Italian team made headlines when it was revealed that Lazio was interested in signing

the attacker from the English Championship, who has 16 goals this year.

Fans of Rangers were left wondering what may have happened after it was reported that Swansea had turned down a Morgan

Whittaker contact from the Ibrox team a year prior.

Though Lazio is still a factor, the most recent news from the Pilgrims indicates that Morgan Whittaker

is not heading anywhere in January.

Plymouth reject Morgan Whittaker Lazio bid

Regarding Lazio’s interest, Neil Dewsnip, the director of football at Plymouth, told Plymouth Live that a transfer offer was “immediately rejected.”

This came about following a chat with 23-year-old Morgan Whittaker, who is reportedly “very happy” at Home Park.

“Lazio made us an official offer for Morgan last night,” stated Dewsnip.

“After internal discussion and consultation with the player’s representation, the offer was turned down right away. We continue to

emphasize that Morgan is not for sale and that he is quite happy at Argyle.

The interest from Lazio comes with Morgan Whittaker having netted 16 goals and laid on seven assists in 31 games this season.

Rangers failed with transfer bid

In January 2023, Rangers’ attempt to sign Morgan Whittaker, a Swansea winger at the time, was turned down by Michael Beale.

At the time, reports stated that Rangers was prepared to spend up to £2 million for the forward, who had been called back to South

Wales following an impressive loan with Plymouth in League One.

Even though Swansea manager Russell Martin later expressed regret to Rangers supporters for the incident,

Whittaker had few opportunities with the Welsh team the previous campaign.

In order to lure the forward to the south coast, Plymouth shattered their transfer record in the summer,

agreeing to a deal worth about £1 million plus add-ons.

This came against the backdrop of fresh links to Rangers under former manager Beale.

Now emerging as one of the Championship’s brightest talents, goals such as this worldie against Sunderland earlier in the

season suggest Rangers might well rue missing out on the forward.
