‘Hugely unlikely’ Rangers stance on Cyriel Dessers exit emerges with replacement mooted – report
According to Football Scotland, Rangers are unlikely to sanction Cyriel Dessers’ departure this window until they find a replacement for him.
The news agency released an update on January 31,
after Gianluca Di Marzio revealed the day before that Verona and Torino are interested in signing the Nigerian.
However, no deal for the 29-year-old is expected to go through unless a new striker arrives.
The report reads: “However, with the Light Blues short on options up front,
it remains highly unlikely that they would sanction Dessers’ quick return to Italy without first signing a replacement.”
It was disclosed over the weekend that Rangers scouts were in the stands watching Lawrence Shankland score in
Hearts’ 2-0 win over Aberdeen, and the Scotland international has heavily linked with a move to Govan all month.”

Cannot afford to lose Dessers.
Shankland was mooted as a Rangers target with the idea that Dessers would still be at the club.
He cannot be signed as a substitute for the Nigerian because the Gers are already lacking offensive options in the coming weeks.
Danilo, Abdallah Sima, and Kemar Roofe will be absent for significant portions of the season,
leaving Dessers as their most reliable goal-scoring option.
He’s had a decent season after a few early hiccups,
and Philippe Clement is unlikely to allow his departure just when he’s starting to settle in.
Had this happened a few months ago, most supporters would not have minded seeing the end of Dessers following his poor start in life at Ibrox
Hopefully, this is only an initial curiosity, and the teams are unlikely to pursue his services further.
