Fabrizio Romano names winner in last-ditch Rangers race to sign Arsenal player today
Fabrizio Romano reports that Aston Villa defeated Rangers in the competition for Arsenal full-back Lino Sousa during the January transfer window.
The 19-year-old defender was reportedly coveted by a number of teams, including the Light Blues, according to an Italian journalist’s
X account on Wednesday, January 31. However, the player must now finish a physical
before making a permanent move to Villa Park.
nonetheless, Unai Emery’s team prevailed and signed the full-back.
Bit of a blow
Rangers need a new fullback during the January transfer window, and even though Sousa is a somewhat unknown player, if the Gers
had won the race to sign him this month, he could have made a significant impact at Ibrox.
Although the adolescent hasn’t made a competitive senior appearance yet, the fact that he has been selected on the Gunners’ bench in
both the FA Cup and the Champions League this season suggests that the Emirates really highly regard him.
While Rangers supporters will be disappointed to learn that they have missed out on a target this month, it should be encouraging to
fans that the Gers are recruiting in similar circles to the likes of Juventus, Villa and Galatasaray
as it shows the standard of player Clement is eyeing.
Hopefully, the Light Blues will be able to get a couple more bits of business done before Thursday (1 February) night’s deadline to set
themselves up for the remainder of the season.
In other Rangers news, a new injury update has emerged in the Gers’ pursuit of Oscar Cortes at Ibrox
