Development emerges in last 24 hours as Rangers & Celtic were locked in transfer chase – report
On January 30, Dundee revealed that they had re-signed Liverpool defender Owen Beck, who had been linked with Rangers and Celtic in January.
On January 31, the Daily Record stated (page 46) that both Old Firm sides were interested in signing the left-back this month.
However, his brief recall to the Reds meant that his only alternative choice was to play for Dundee this season.
Not needed in any case.
The 21-year-old’s performances for Dundee have not been so outstanding that Rangers had to sign him.
They did want a left-back this month, but of all the options mentioned, Beck is not the best match for them.
It no longer matters because they appear to be closing near on the signing of Brazilian left-back Jefte.
Hopefully, that deal goes through without any problems, as that potential exists until the club makes an official statement.
This time of year is known for clubs attempting last-minute hijacks, and even minor details can push players away.
There is no evidence to suggest that this is the case with Jefte, and Philippe Clement will undoubtedly want the club to finalize the transactions as soon as possible and not leave anything until the last hours of Thursday night.
