Kenny Miller believes a move to Celtic will appeal to Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, but he wonders if Rangers suit the Scotland international better than Brendan Rodgers’ side.

One year after his £2.5 million January arrival, Oh Hyeon-Gyu has learned the hard way that displacing Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic’s starting lineup is considerably easier said than done.

Despite a somewhat uneven run of form in recent months, Kyogo maintains the first name on The Hoops team sheet,

with Oh sitting on the bench. However, the idea of being a second-choice centre-forward would not deter Lawrence Shankland from biting Rodgers’ arm off at the elbow if Celtic came calling in the last hours of the January transfer window.

Kenny Miller, a former Old Firm hitman, believes so.

Celtic and Rangers associated with Lawrence Shankland.

“I don’t believe there would be any convincing to do there,” Miller tells Clyde SuperScoreboard.

“If Lawrence Shankland saw either of the Old Firm approach him at this point in his career,

he would want to take the opportunity. He would prefer to work for a manager like Brendan Rodgers.

That would be a huge advantage for him.

“(Rodgers) has an excellent track record of moving players up a few levels. I don’t think he would listen to any convincing.”

Miller, who played for both Celtic and Rangers during his illustrious Scottish Premiership career,

wonders if Ibrox is a better option than Parkhead. Despite Cyriel Dessers’ recent goal-scoring surge,

Rangers do not have a centre-forward of Kyogo’s calibre at their disposal.

Are Rangers a better fit?

“I just think there is more of an opportunity for him at Rangers,” he says. “Because they don’t have a Kyogo.”

Shankland is reputedly worth around £3 million.

He has yet to sign a new contract with Hearts, and his present contract will expire in about 18 months (BBC Sport).

The Glasgow-born forward scored 28 goals last season and is on track to do so again this season,

as he is just shy of 20.

Celtic, though,  appear unlikely to test Hearts’ resolve before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

Fellow striker Adam Idah is expected to join on loan from Norwich City.
