5-year contract update emerges with ace in Glasgow for Rangers medical
Oscar Cortes is in Glasgow and is set to complete his Rangers medical ahead of joining on a loan-to-buy deal, according to Pipe Sierra.
The Win Sports TV journalist said on January 31 that the Colombian will first sign his contract until June,
with the potential permanent move seeing him secured on a long-term
Cortes, 20, will become the third January signing at Ibrox, f
ollowing Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande,
and will assist cover the void created by Abdallah Sima’s injury.
Sierra wrote: “Óscar Cortés is already in Glasgow finishing medical exams to sign his contract (until June) with Rangers.” He will arrive on loan from Lens, with the option to purchase.
“If the Scots exercise it, they will sign him a 4-5 year contract.”
The youngster’s ability to make an impact during his loan period will undoubtedly determine if he ends up on the long-term permanent deal.
It could also have a significant impact on the outcome of the SPFL title race and the general success of Rangers’ second half of the season.
Sima’s absence is a significant setback,
but Philippe Clement appears to believe Cortes is the best guy to help in attack following the Senegalese international’s injury.
Late action in both directions appears to have been concentrated in the closing days before the deadline,
and fans would undoubtedly be much pleased if there was an update on a new striker.
Other long-term injury issues with Danilo and Kemar Roofe have left Cyriel Dessers as the only available number nine, and the much-anticipated run at Lawrence Shankland has been extremely quiet.
Clement appears to be on the verge of increasing his attacking options with the addition of Cortes from Ligue 1 and Silva from Wolves, but numbers remain low as things stand.
In other Rangers news, a move to Celtic has forced the Light Blues to consider an unexpected last-ditch departure option.
