Why it makes sense for the Chicago Bears to hire Ike Hilliard as their wide receivers coach

Chicago Bears intend to speak with Ike Hilliard about becoming their wide receiver coach.
Hilliard played in the NFL for a very long time. He played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was drafted by the New York Giants. He participated in games from 1997 until the 2008 campaign. It can’t be all bad for the receivers to have an NFL wide receiver as their coach.
He became a wide receivers coach for the UFL Florida Tuskers in 2009. He made his NFL debut in 2011 as an assistant wide receivers coach with the Miami Dolphins.
He was employed by Washington in 2012, serving as Kyle Shanahan’s receivers coach. For Pierre Garcon, it was the pinnacle of his career. He was hired as the wide receiver coach by the Buffalo Bills in 2013, but returned to Washington in 2014.
Jay Gruden was the head coach this time, but Sean McVay oversaw the offense. Hilliard thus spent time with Shanahan and McVay.
Hiliard and Shane Waldron collaborated as coaches for a year after Waldron joined the Washington coaching staff in 2016.
Hilliard continued to work there through the 2019 season, but McVay left in 2017. He worked for the Pittsburgh Steelers for two years after being hired in 2020. During that draft, George Pickens was selected by the Steelers. And last, he played for the Auburn Tigers.
All things considered, Hilliard is a former wideout who spent years of his career with Hilliard and was present in the rooms where skilled wideouts were drafted. The Chicago Bears clearly want him to wire with Shanahan and McVay, but he also worked with new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. There’s no denying the fit.
