The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2023 NFL season was forgettable as the legendary team struggled during the most of the regular season, particularly on the offensive side of the ball.

The Steelers’ offensive woes throughout the regular season led to the surprising firing of offensive coordinator Matt Canada, a sign of

the team’s growing frustration with the defense’s need to win games.

The inability of second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett, whom the Steelers were expecting would be the future franchise quarterback

and Ben Roethlisberger’s replacement, to improve was one of the team’s main worries throughout the 2023 season.

Regretfully, Pickett’s lackluster performance in his sophomore year raised many

concerns about the position’s future in Pittsburgh.

According to Blitzburgh, team owner Art Rooney II recently had a conversation with Pickett about what he likes and doesn’t like about the rookie quarterback.

“It’s just that we need him to keep improving as a quarterback,” Rooney stated. “When he breaks out of the huddle, read the defense

fast and get the offense into the best play for the situation.”

Rooney is obviously not out on Pickett just yet, as he appears content with the team’s growing pains for the time being. However, it’s

safe to say that going ahead, he’ll be kept under close supervision, since the team’s hierarchy

has expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s lack of advancement from season to season.

The Steelers’ 2024 NFL campaign may make or break them, as both Pickett and head coach Mike Tomlin could be under pressure.

Pittsburgh’s front office is looking for results, and losing in the first round

of the playoffs doesn’t seem to cut it anymore.
