Greek Tragedy – Celtic reject offer for James McCarthy

According to reports, James McCarthy’s request to spend the rest of the season on loan was turned down by Celtic.

The midfield player hasn’t participated in a first team squad under Brendan Rodgers for more over a year, but after

turning 33, he has made a few appearances for the Lowland League B club.

McCarthy is as far apart from the picture as it gets, but it appears Celtic believes a stronger offer might be made for the

former midfield player for Everton and Wigan.

This morning at 10:48, Sky Sports reported:

Volos FC, a Greek team, made an offer for James McCarthy, which Celtic turned down.

The midfield player was intended to be on loan to the Super League team till the end of the current campaign.

The Scottish Premiership executives retracted their request because they desired a higher portion of the midfielder’s

salary to be covered.

McCarthy last appeared on the Celtic team in October 2022.

McCarthy and Joe Hart were signed by Celtic simultaneously as Ange Postecoglou quickly assembled a new-look team.

Despite having played in twelve Premier League games for Crystal Palace during the Lockdown season, it became

apparent very fast that he lacked the quickness and agility needed for Postecoglou’s team. McCarthy has a contract that

expires in May 2025.
