Rangers are on the verge of signing Fluminense’s Jefte,

who is on loan from APOEL and looking to swap one possible title charge for another.

Rangers added their second January signing on Friday,

with Mohamed Diomande joining from Nordsjaelland for a reported £4.3 million.

Diomande joins Fabio Silva at Rangers, and there could be more new arrivals before this week’s transfer deadline.

Another left back appears to be a priority,

given the uncertain long-term prospects of Borna Barisic and Ridvan Yilmaz.

Rangers are pursuing a surprise target, with Brazilian left back Jefte now expected to join the Gers before the transfer window closes.

Jefte isn’t exactly a household name, yet he has played a big part in a title charge this season.

Jefte appears prepared to give up APOEL title charge for Rangers drive.

The Brazilian is presently on loan at Cypriot club APOEL Nicosia after failing to break through with Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense.

Jefte has made an impression this season,

demonstrating his attacking abilities from left back with three goals and four assists in 18 league matches.

APOEL and Jefte currently lead the Cyprus league, four points ahead of Aris Limassol,

who faced Rangers in the Europa League earlier this season.

APOEL has not won the league title since 2019, but Jefte appears to be ready to abandon a title bid in Cyprus in favor of a move to Glasgow.

After all, Rangers still have a chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title  this season.

Rangers are five points behind Celtic with a game in hand, but they are still striving,

and January acquisitions will be critical to any push for first place under Philippe Clement.

Jefte would suit the criteria, and the Brazilian is on the verge of shifting one title fight for another in a bold move for his career.

There haven’t been many Brazilians to play for Rangers; Jefte will join Danilo at Ibrox,

following in the footsteps of stars such as Emilson Cribari and Emerson.

Jefte appears to believe that Rangers is the best option for his career and is willing to sacrifice a potential title-winning season with APOEL to make it happen.

Who knows, perhaps Jefte will finish the season having played a role in two title wins – one with APOEL and one with Rangers.
