Rangers are considering a fifth January transfer window arrival after completing deals for Jefte and Oscar Cortes, according to Derek Clark.

The Rangers Review journalist revealed via Twitter on January 28 that,

with the pair of young South Americans on their way in,

the Light Blues are still hoping to recruit another player before the deadline.

This is expected to result in equivalent moves towards the Ibrox exits, which might include Jose Cifuentes.

Clarke writes, “I told Rangers I was hoping to bring in one more after Jefte and Cortes.” Expect departures,

though Cifuentes isn’t too keen on moving to Turkey.

Working around the clock.

Almost all Rangers fans will be hoping that  the final deal proves to be the striker which appeared the greatest need heading into the window.

Fabio Silva’s loan move from Wolves, combined with Cyriel Dessers’ significantly better form,

has helped overcome injuries to Danilo and Kemar Roofe,

despite the fact that the Portuguese teenager is not a number nine.

However, with Sam Lammers having left on loan, although not contributing significantly in Glasgow,

and Abdallah Sima now ruled out for the long term,

the side has few genuine goal threats who can be expected to score consistently.

Dessers’ stats aren’t horrible, but he’s still far from clinical, and otherwise,

James Tavernier is the most likely to contribute in double figures.

Perhaps 20-year-old winger Cortes can replace Sima’s goals from the left,

but given his age and only four games in Europe, an out-and-out striker appears to be lacking.

If Clement and Nils Koppen can close the window with a centre-forward in addition to

the two announced acquisitions and two more expected,

they will have accomplished about as much as they could have asked for in midseason.

However, with three more trophies potentially available, they will need to be more successful in selecting

the proper targets than Michael Beale was in the summer to add to the League Cup.

Space will need to be created so that underachievers can leave,

but despite Cifuentes supposedly being on the verge of departing, it appears that this may be easier said than done.
