Will Rangers lose interest in the £7 million Premier League attacker Oscar Cortes’ transfer?
As the Rangers begin talks with Oscar Cortes, a winger for RC Lens, some fans may be wondering what any agreement would mean for injured attacker Abdallah Sima.

The 21-year-old Colombian attacker, who moved from Millonarios for £3.8 million in the summer, has had difficulty adjusting to life in France. Initially, reports suggested Rangers had reached an agreement to sign him.

Though Rangers do seem interested, the most recent information has somewhat put a stop to those rumors, and a deal to bring Oscar Cortes to Ibrox isn’t quite signed, sealed, and delivered just yet.

However, as interest in Philippe Clement’s first transfer window grows and fans start to YouTube, what does Oscar Cortes’ transfer mean for Abdallah Sima?

Injuries have left Abdallah Sima’s Ibrox future uncertain.

Senegal forward Abdallah Sima was forced to return home from the Africa Cup of Nations early due to a persistent injury that could sideline the Brighton loanee for up to three months.

Given that Abda scored 15 goals in the first half of the season and established himself as a vital member of the team, it is a significant setback to Rangers’ prospects.

When you combine that with Rangers’ expressed desire to sign the Brighton attacker permanently for £7 million and Sima’s agent’s assertion that the feelings are reciprocated, the problem quickly transcends this campaign.

Philippe Clement claims that talks were ongoing between Rangers and Brighton regarding where the forward should rehab, but he has not provided confirmation of Sima’s situation.
Sima is still at Ibrox as of right now, and while his future with the Rangers is still very much up in the air, let’s hope he can return and contribute before the season ends.

Oscar Cortes approaches the Rangers swap

A few factors make the transfer intriguing in the context of Abdallah Sima as the Rangers close in on Oscar Cortes.

First of all, Cortes is undoubtedly well-positioned to step in and take Sima’s goal-scoring role, which will be sorely missed during the remaining part of the season.

Second, though Cortes is capable of playing across the front three, Sima’s opposite side of the field, off the right, is where the Colombian youth international has been used most of the time.

This tells us that, while there is undoubtedly some cover in the transfer, the position was probably meant to be strengthened in the summer anyway, regardless of Sima’s outcome.
The fact that Rangers are only apparently going to sign a loan with an option to buy deal for the winger serves as a reminder of this.

The possibility that Oscar Cortes will soon join Big Phil’s Rangers revolution doesn’t seem to have much of an effect on Abdallah Sima’s long-term future at the team, so maybe the injury to the player just accelerated things for the Rangers.
