Rangers transfer update: suitors handed more money to spend amid January pursuit

Galatasaray now have “more money to spend” in their pursuit of Ridvan Yilmaz from Rangers but still haven’t met their asking price, according to Dailysportnews.co.uk

On January 29, the Rangers Review writer tweeted that the Turkish side’s finances had been strengthened by the transfer of Sacha Boey to German heavyweights Bayern Munich.

The 22-year-old Yilmaz has taken over the Istanbul-based club’s manager Okan Buruk,

but bids have yet to meet what the Light Blues want if they are to let him leave,

which is expected to be up to €6 million [£5.1 million] according to Futbol Arena on 22 January.

Rizespor has accepted a proposal for midfielder Jose Cifuentes, but the 24-year-old is unwilling to go.

Boey’s leaving is expected to cost €30 million [£25.6 million],

plus an additional €5 million [£4.3 million] in add-ons [Fabrizio Romano, 28 January].

but he’s not interested. Following the sale of Sacha Boey to Bayern,

Galatasaray now has more money to spend. Okan Buruk is a great supporter of Ridvan,

although they have yet to reach Rangers’ worth.

If Galatasaray wants Yilmaz, they will have to pay for him,

as his current form is unlikely to entice Philippe Clement or the Ibrox management to provide a discount.

They are likely to be pleased not to part with him at all since he demonstrates the sort of skill and availability that everyone has been looking for over the last 18 months.

Rangers have spent heavily on Mohamed Diomande,

and more acquisitions are on the pipeline, including a left-back.

So, given the player-trading paradigm, the club will need to find a means to get money back,

and Yilmaz looks to be the quickest option to do so.

After selling Boey for enough to buy the Gers defender around five times,

it will be clear that the funds are there, no doubt strengthening the attitude at Ibrox.

It would be a disappointment in many ways if Yilmaz left at this stage,

just as it appears he is on the verge of success after a year and a half of false dawns,

but if enough money is put on the table and Jefte is able to be brought in before the deadline to replace him,

it may be a necessary sacrifice,

though the opportunity to profit from Cifuentes would undoubtedly be a much more appealing move.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart thinks it is “clear” whether the Gers are attempting to move on another.
