After a new development, Rangers need to move quickly to complete Jefte’s last-minute acquisition at Ibrox.

The Daily Record revealed on their website on January 28 that APOEL is demanding a sum of money akin to what Rangers has consented to pay Fluminense in exchange for Jefte’s release from loan.

In order to sign the young left-back, the Light Blues have already “hammered out terms” on a £400,000 deal with the Brazilian team. The player has also agreed to a three-and-a-half-year contract.

The Brazilian news source Globo reported on January 26 that negotiations between the Rangers and the Fluminese parties are proceeding and progressing nicely in the direction of a “definitive agreement,” which has not yet been signed.

However, there are reports from sources in Cyprus that APOEL, the 20-year-old who is “hotly-rated” and has been on loan this season while his parent club looks to generate transfer interest, wants that kind of money as well in order to shorten his contract.

Stumbling block

The only “stumbling block” that stands in the Brazilian’s way of joining Philippe Clement’s team at Ibrox is the compensation fee.

In spite of this, it is said that the Gers should be able to get past it because they have already promised to back Jefte’s “ambitions to play at the highest level possible.”

And given Clement’s strong desire to bolster his left-back lineup, the Gers should move quickly to secure his signature given his player stance and this new development.

Rangers have the option to reapply for him during the summer transfer window, especially since they have an agreement in place with Fluminese that serves as an informal agreement to bring him to Ibrox.

Even though Jefte is somewhat of an unknown quantity, Nils Koppen, the transfer coordinator, and Philippe Clement won’t be making a move for him without first doing some research.

In his 18 first-team games, the 20-year-old has scored three goals for the team. He appears to be the player Rangers need to not only solve the left-back uncertainty but also pave the way for a long-term future at Ibrox.

The Light Blues have to pick up the pace if they have any chance of getting him in before Thursday’s deadline.
