On January 28, David Edgar announced via Twitter that a deal involving the Colombian winger was almost finalized.

The Colombian Football Federation granted Cortes permission to leave the Under-23s camp on Sunday, February 28, in order to complete a transfer.

“There is genuine interest in Oscar Cortes,” stated Heart and Hand. Rangers intend to sign him to a loan within the next 24 to 48 hours.

This appears to be another excellent signing, assuming there are no unforeseen complications with the contract, which there is no reason to think will be the case.

Even though Cortes isn’t exactly a “name,” many people who are familiar with French football have extolled his virtues following his brief tenure at Lens.

The 20-year-old plays on the wing, and although Philippe Clement has options, that is always a position that could use some

improvement. Though Lawrence Shankland remains at the top of many fans’ lists, this is still an attacker that can be called upon.

It also indicates that the Gers are placing a lot more emphasis on acquiring young players with potential than on players who are

already elite players. Let’s hope Cortes impresses over the next four months, as reports indicate Rangers have the option to purchase

him at the end of the campaign.
