Rangers are “trying their best” to sign a new centre-forward before the end of the January transfer window, according to The Dailysport.

On Monday (29 January), the writer wrote on his X account that the Light Blues are doing everything they can to bring a new number nine to Ibrox before the market closes on Thursday (1 February).

Rangers share information when Oscar Cortes gets to Scotland.

Philippe Clement has already recruited Fabio Silva to add competition in the forward areas,

and Oscar Cortes will be unveiled as a Rangers player on Tuesday (30 January),

increasing the club’s depth of quality in the final third [Daily Record, 29 January].

When asked if a “quality striker” will be signed, The Fourth Official answered, “They are definitely trying their best, I know that.”

Before the window opened this month,

Rangers fans were unanimous in their conviction that the Light Blues needed to buy a new number nine

if they wanted to win the Scottish Premiership at the conclusion of the season.

Cyriel Dessers has impressed in recent weeks and appears to be improving as a Rangers player,

but the Nigerian has already demonstrated this season that he lacks the firepower to make a difference in the most important games.

With Danilo and Kemar Roofe also dealing with injuries on a regular basis,

Clement simply needed to sign a new centre-forward,

and while Silva is a good start, he is far from finished and cannot be relied on week after week.

Hopefully, the Gers’ efforts in the last days of the window will pay off,

and they will be able to finalize a deal to bring a new striker to Ibrox before the window closes,

but this might be a deadline-busting transfer.

Hearts are aware that the Scottish international’s asking price will lower in the summer as he enters the last year of his contract at Tynecastle,

so if the Light Blues are serious about signing him,

conversations must take place.
After weeks and months of conjecture and pundit comments,

the door has finally been opened for Rangers to come in and capture Shankland’s services;

now all they have to do is go for it.
