I sure am’: Journalist can’t believe Celtic haven’t tried to sign 28-year-old who’s tipped to go to Rangers
The Celtic supporters are eager to see Brendan Rodgers bolster the team with new players as the
transfer window closes. especially in light of the team’s display during the 1-0 victory over Ross County.
Celtic has been informed that there is a player they should be trying to sign to assist take the pressure
off the 29-year-old Japan international Kyogo Furuhashi, who looked frustrated after failing to score on
Saturday.
While discussing Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, journalist Bill Leckie said that he is shocked
Brendan Rodgers hasn’t made a move for the Scotland international.
According to conventional belief, Lawrence Shankland would leave Hearts for the Rangers if he leaves,
Leckie told The Sun.
But is anyone else shocked that Celtic hasn’t moved after yet another performance as stodgy as the field
they play on? Since I most certainly am.
“In my opinion, Shankland is exactly what Brendan Rodgers lacks—a frontman to relieve Kyogo of the
load and someone who can turn all of their possession into victories that are far more convincing than
the ones they had against Ross County on Saturday.”
For Celtic, Lawrence Shankland?
Leckie is not the first to suggest that the Hearts player should sign with Celtic. Rangers, Glasgow’s
opponents, are reportedly interested in Shankland due to his outstanding goal scoring record and have
scouted him four times already this season.
With 19 goals across all competitions, the 28-year-old leads all scorers in the Scottish Premiership with
14, four goals more than Matt O’Riley of Celtic and six more than Kyogo Furuhashi. [SPFL]
Since Shankland’s contract is scheduled to expire at the end of the following campaign, Celtic Park
wouldn’t need to pay a large transfer fee to get him.
Would he be the acquisition that calmed the Celtic supporters, though? He undoubtedly has a goal
sense, and with the quantity of opportunities Celtic generates, he might succeed under Brendan
Rodgers.
The Celtic supporters will be eager to see who Rodgers brings to the team to aid in the title run-in with
less than four days till the window closes.
