Less than a year after leaving Glasgow, former Celtic forward Jota is about to put an end to his nightmare in Saudi Arabia by finalizing a move to the English Premier League.

The Portuguese star signed a massive £25 million deal to leave Celtic Park and join Al-Ittihad in the summer, but he has only appeared in five league games for the team since losing favor with former manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Due to the club’s decision to not register the player, he is no longer a member of the squad and can only be used in AFC Champions League and Club World Cup matches.

But the 24-year-old former Hoops hero looks like he’s about to put an end to his ordeal in Saudi Arabia and finally join West Ham United in the English Premier League, as many had predicted would happen following his stellar performance during his time in Scotland. Reputable Foot Mercato reporter Sani Aouna reports that after recent productive negotiations, a deal between the player and David Moyes’ team is almost a “full agreement.”

Though Jota has been largely unwelcome since joining the club and is currently “awaiting the green light” to travel to London for a medical and finalize the move, the Saudi club brought in a number of big names in the summer, including Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante. Despite this, the team has struggled for form and currently sits seventh in the Saudi Pro League.

The Hammers were also linked to a move for Ibrahim Osman, but it is said that FC Nordsjaelland turned down an offer of £16 million. Meanwhile, it is said that Sunderland’s Jack Clarke was a target for the Hammers, but the London team decided to bid for Jota instead of the rumored target.

Even though the deal is merely a loan, sports journalist Ben Jacobs claims that it could be difficult to pull off due to a “tax situation” and other “complicating factors.” According to Jacobs, there are Saudi sources who maintain that Jota’s weekly salary is actually “half that number” rather than the widely circulated £190k. However, Al-Ittihad will demand that the Hammers pay the full amount of the player’s salary. “More clarity” regarding Jota’s transfer to West Ham is anticipated later today, he continued.
