“Even when playing for Rangers” – Youngster says Celtic is his ‘dream’ club, could be set for tug-of-war

over choice at national level

Although 16-year-old Robert Rachwal is still a member of the club’s youth teams, his name may not

signify much to Celtic supporters right now. However, given that he has previously played for Rangers,

the club’s bitter rivals, he could be someone to watch in the future on both the club and international

stages.

The Polish-born midfielder, who is thrilled to be at Celtic Park after leaving the team that Philippe

Clement now manages, is a target for the Scottish FA.

They aim to capitalize on the fact that the child has been residing in the UK since he was six months old,

as disclosed when Prezglad Sportowy profiles Rachwal on Monday, looking back at the blend of Rangers

and Celtic that characterized his formative football years.

In 2005, Rachwal’s mother returned to Poland to give birth to Robert, and the family relocated to

Scotland.

He and his father “went to Celtic matches together and played in a nearby park in the evenings,” and

finally they “every Sunday at the club’s center in Lennoxtown” attended the club’s training sessions, so

when they returned, there was little doubt in his mind that Celtic was the family’s side.

Despite this, Rachwal made his debut at the Rangers academy thanks to the assistance of Ross Lyon, the

current captain of Clyde FC, who saw Rachwal’s potential as a teenager and told his grandfather, Brian

Adams.

“Suddenly an hour later, a Rangers scout appeared on the pitch,” his father said to Przeglad Sportowy.

Although my son wasn’t old enough to enroll in the academy, he piqued his curiosity. At that point,

Adams intervened and made an effort to persuade him to ignore Robert’s advanced age. That was its

origin.

Rachwal played for the Scotland youngsters Club, where Celtic noticed him, and joined Rangers’ Under-

8s, which included youngsters two years older than him.

“You have crossed over to the good side,” his grandfather Andrzej informed him once he relocated there.

“Celtic has always been my dream club in Scotland,” Rachwal stated to the newspaper. I cheered for the

Green and Whites from the stadium even though I was a player for the Rangers.

The teenage midfielder’s trajectory has largely improved since then, and this summer he signed his first

professional deal with Celtic, which is good until June 2026.

On December 8th, he did, however, suffer a rupture of the anterior crucial ligament, from which he is

currently rehabilitating in the hopes of returning to play in 10 to 11 months.
