Deal agreed: Report claims Rangers and Clement are now set to sign “very promising” new player
Rangers are on the approach of making a new signing before the conclusion of the January transfer window,
with an agreement in place to sign a “very promising” forward player.
Rangers Transfer News
The Gers have already done some key January business,
the most notable of which was the loan signing of Fabio Silva from Wolves,
but many fans will be looking for more reinforcements this week.
Left-back continues to dominate the headlines at Ibrox,
with questions about the futures of present pair Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic,
and a deal is apparently in the works to recruit Fluminense defender Jefte before the end of the month.
Gijs Smal of FC Twente has surfaced as a left-wing alternative,
while Everton centre-back Ben Godfrey has been linked with a move to Rangers but is also being pursued by
Leeds United and Italian clubs as he fights for playing time at Goodison Park.
Now, it appears that Gers fans may be ready to get their wish when it comes to new additions,
with a deal reportedly on the verge of being completed.
Rangers plan to sign Oscar Cortes.
According to The Daily Record, Rangers are close to signing Lens attacker Oscar Cortes on loan before the deadline.
“Lens winger Oscar Cortes is on his way to Rangers as Philippe Clement is on
the verge of making his third January signing…
sources in South America indicate a deal has been struck to
buy Cortes from French Ligue 1 club Lens – a 20-year-old right winger.
“There will be an option to buy according to the claims and Cortes is already believed to be in route to
Glasgow so he can “formalise the arrangement.”
This is great news for Rangers fans,
since Cortes is a young player with a lot of potential who will not be 21 until December of this year.
The Rangers Journal praised him on X, calling him a “very promising young winger”.
Rangers’ 10 most expensive signings | Total |
---|---|
Tore Andre Flo | £15.3m |
Michael Ball | £8.3m |
Mikel Arteta | £6.7m |
Arthur Numan | £6.5m |
Giovanni van Bronckhorst | £6.3m |
Barry Ferguson | £6.18m |
Bert Konterman | £6.18m |
Ryan Kent | £6.14m |
Michael Mols | £5.4m |
Gaby Amato | £5.4m |
The young Colombian has already demonstrated his ability to make an impact in his short time in European football,
scoring and assisting once in four Lens games,
and he scored 11 goals in 25 outings for Colombia’s Under-20s before making his professional debut.
Rangers may aim to activate Cortes’ option to buy clause if he arrives and hits the ground running.
Granted, he is young and rather inexperienced, so expecting too much may be unjust,
but his skill and menace in the last third can provide Philippe Clement
a wonderful additional option in the Scottish Premiership title battle.
