Excitement among fans is understandable given that Rangers would be signing a highly-rated young

winger who recently joined Lens from Millonarios in the summer for €4.5 million (£3.8 million).

However, a few reporters in Scotland have refuted reports that an agreement is as close as first reported,

once again in response to news breaking abroad.

Not as close to the Rangers as claimed is Oscar Cortes

First off, the team hopes to finalize a contract with Oscar Cortes in the next 24 to 48 hours, according to

prominent Rangers fan site Heart & Hand, which has stated that interest in the player is “real.”

The outlet, which is well-known for having strong ties to the team, will only be repeating information

obtained from sources at Ibrox.

Journalist Andy Newport of the Daily Record is another with ties to the Rangers, and he has stated that

information indicating the sale is completed “aren’t quite right.”

This is a view echoed by Herald & Times journalist Chris Jack, who claims reports stating that Oscar

Cortes is on his way to Glasgow are “wide of the mark”.

During the transfer window, Rangers have confirmed or refuted rumors about the team by using

journalists and fan media.

Previously employed mostly to refute claims that were gaining enormous media attention (Michy

Batshuayi and David Jurasek being the most prominent instances), we can now be certain that the

connections to Cortes are valid.

But, it seems that much work needs to be done on a transaction as Rangers attempt to bolster their

roster in January.

Ibrox transfers more money

As Rangers aim to bolster their offense going into the second half of the

season, Oscar Cortes is being aggressively connected to the team.

Wolves forward Fabio Silva has already joined Rangers, and Ivorian midfielder Mohamed Diomande

has also joined from Danish team FC Nordsjaelland.

Additionally, the club has been heavily connected to a deal for Brazilian left-back Jefte; during the

weekend, Scotland international Lawrence Shankland was reportedly observed by the team.

As January draws to an end, manager Philippe Clement has acknowledged that his team would be

“busy” throughout the transfer window, with all eyes on Ibrox.

Oscar Cortes seems like a good fit for the Rangers, but we’ll have to wait and see whether a deal can be

done in time to get the winger.
