Oscar Cortes is getting closer to becoming a Rangers player as the Ibrox team is ready to make the Colombian standout an offer.

Since the Ibrox coach has dealt Mohamed Diomande and Fabio Silva across the line, the Lens star has risen to the top of Philippe

Clement’s priority list. Rangers are reportedly ready to jump on a loan agreement for the highly-regarded 20-year-old winger inside

the next 48 hours, according to Record Sport. Clement has already disclosed that he and Nels Koppen, the head of recruiting, are

willing to work until the very last minute to fill the position with new applicants.

And with the news that a deal for Brazilian star Jefte would be moving from Cyprus, Cortes’ name is the most recent to pique the

interest of the curious Ibrox supporters. Cortes is free to forego his Colombian Under-21 team’s

international duties while he awaits an offer from Glasgow.

The countryman of former Gers great Alfredo Morelos moved to France last summer, but he has had difficulty getting into the first

team, appearing in just four games for the Ligue 1 team thus far. Rangers, though, are optimistic that a kid who led his nation in

scoring at the South American Youth Championships the previous year can perform better in Scotland.

After making his debut in Colombia with Millonarios, where he scored seven goals in 20 games for the Bogota team, he was granted a

transfer to Europe. Looks like Fluminense star Jefte, another South American import, might be joining him at Ibrox—but only if Gers

go a bit further to sign the left-back who’s presently on loan at APOEL Nicosia.

Rangers have already hammered out terms on a £400,000 deal with the defender’s Brazilian parent club while also agreeing a three-

and-a-half-year contract with the player. But sources in Cyprus say APOEL will be looking for a similar fee before they agree to cut the

20-year-old’s season-long stay short and clear the way for a move to Ibrox.

For their victory over Nea Salamis on Friday night, APOEL manager Ricardo Sa Pinto did not include Jefte in his team. The amount of

the reparation charge APOEL would demand for shredding their loan agreement

s now the sole obstacle to be overcome. Record

Sport, however, is aware that they won’t be difficult to work with because they have promised to help the athlete achieve his or her

goals of being the best player possible.

In an attempt to pique European interest in the highly-regarded young player,

Fluminesnse sent Jefte on a 12-month stint on the

Mediterranean island last summer. An embargo on transfers by FIFA prevented APOEL from making the agreement permanent.
