If Jack Butland continues to play well for Rangers both domestically and overseas, he thinks he can win a call-up to the England squad

for the European Championship this summer.

Five years ago, in a friendly match against Switzerland, the 30-year-old earned his final cap for the Three Lions. Since then, he has

dropped in the international standings. However, a string of outstanding displays this season may have given Butland the opportunity

to challenge for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2024 European Championship.

Butland has been a pivotal player for Rangers in goal, taking over the jersey left by Ibrox great Allan McGregor and solidifying his

position as the greatest goalkeeper in Scotland by a significant margin. This season, he has played every minute of every game in the

Premiership, and his shutout against St. Mirren on Saturday marked his 18th clean sheet

in 36 games across all competitions.

In his last group, Southgate selected Sam Johnstone, the goalkeeper for Crystal Palace, and Aaron Ramsdale, the keeper for Arsenal.

Jordan Pickford, the hero of Everton, is currently unquestionably first choice. That won’t stop Butland, though, as the man who made

history in 2012 by becoming the youngest goalkeeper to receive a cap sets his eyes on an incredible

comeback on the international scene.

“I’m limited to what I am now doing. It has been a while since I was in that England team. No, if I said that was the first thing on my

mind. Of course, I would be thrilled to have it.

“In the end, I have to perform for Rangers, and the reality is that we currently play frequently, competing in prestigious leagues, and

we still have European football to play.” So maybe that’s a nice place to keep showcasing that.

“I am aware that they have a large roster of players and goalies to consider. Knowing the England camp, they don’t waste any time, and

if it was something they were considering, they would have taken care of it sooner.

“They don’t just make those judgments at random, even if it was a factor—whether they have watched games or been here in person.

Whether they felt it was the appropriate thing to do would determine their decision. That is the reason the England squad has been

successful, and let’s hope that trend continues and the team has a successful summer.

“I don’t see any obstacles to performing in Scotland.” In the past, England players have been chosen based on their performance in

continental Europe and European competitions. It all boils down to your abilities and whether you are able to execute at the

appropriate level. In that scenario, you are a viable choice.
