Most recent Celtic transfer rumors involving Mikey Johnston, Bojan Miovski, and Sydney van Hooijdonk
The closer the transfer deadline draws, the more nervous Celtic supporters get every day.
Nicolas Kuhn, the German winger who moved from Rapid Vienna for £3 million, is still the only January addition to
the Hoops. However, the hunt for a new left-back and striker continues to disregard two key positions. Although
Brendan Rodgers has stated that he is only interested in ready-made players who can bring “quality” to his starting
lineup, Celtics have not been able to make the kind of acquisitions that the manager and fans have been waiting for.
After the team’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ross County yesterday, Rodgers acknowledged that the champions are
trying to bolster a number of areas. However, the Northern Irishman expressed optimism that new players will be
joining by Thursday at 11:30 p.m.
The club’s disgruntled supporters might be placated by the addition of Sydney van Hooijdonk, a Dutch striker. The
son of former Parkhead great Pierre is not doing well for Bologna, having played in just 11 games this season. This is
true even though he scored 16 goals last season while on loan at Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.
In the east end of Glasgow, the 23-year-old’s absence from last night’s 2-2 draw away to AC Milan raised eyebrows. A
TNT Sports pundit stated: “Sydney van Hooijdonk is the absent man upfront, not even in the squad, with an
apparent move to Celtic on the cards.”
But Thiago Motta, the boss of Bolgona, later confirmed that the frontman had been afflicted with the illness, putting
an end to the rumors. However, in the days to come, the Brazilian would not rule out Van Hooijdonk leaving in
January, saying instead, “We’ll see if in the end he stays here or not, the important thing is that he always trains to
the maximum.”
