Rangers to agree ‘considerable profit’ plus add-ons to sell Englishman as bid ready
Rangers could make a “considerable profit” on England Under-18 ace Archie Stevens, with Brighton interested in making a move for the youngster, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper said in its print edition (27 January, page 58) that the Premier League club is preparing a six-figure bid for Stevens in an attempt to sign the right-winger before the window shuts this month.
Rangers recruited the 18-year-old from Wimbledon in 2022,
and while he is still part of the Gers’ B squad, he has already made his first-team debut and is regarded as one of the club’s “brightest talents.”
If Stevens makes the move south, the Rangers will earn add-ons in addition to the “considerable profit” from the transaction.
Difficult to resist
While Stevens has only recently joined the club and has the potential to become a vital player in Glasgow,
Rangers would be hard-pressed to reject down any bids that would result in a significant return on their initial investment.
Brighton have a wonderful track record of recruiting unproven talent, and if they’re interested in Stevens, there’s a strong possibility he’s the real deal.
However, Philippe Clement may be willing to approve a sale so that any proceeds can be reinvested in the first-team squad, making the Gers more competitive in the short term.
Stevens may be a great talent, but he has only played five games in the Rangers’ junior system,
and generating money on a guy with such little playing time may be too difficult to pass up.
Nonetheless, if they choose to let Stevens go, the club will undoubtedly hope they do not come to regret their decision.
In other Rangers news, the team outbid a number of rival clubs to recruit a new player in January.
