Rangers reportedly accept offer for ‘exciting’ Beale signing as Clement wields the axe again
The Glasgow Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes appears to be leaving the club after accepting an offer from Caykur Rizespor this weekend.
The focus has been on a prospective acquisition, with Fluminense left defender Jefte supposedly on the verge of moving to Ibrox.
The Brazilian is currently on loan at APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus, but will leave to join Rangers.
While Ridvan Yilmaz has been the emphasis, a midfielder may leave Glasgow soon.
Rangers embrace Jose Cifuentes’ offer.
According to Sky Sports, Rangers have accepted a bid from Turkish club Caykur Rizespor for midfielder Jose Cifuentes.
Rangers will allow Cifuentes to join Caykur Rizespor on loan,
with the option of a permanent move worth £2 million at the end of the season.
Caykur Rizespor is not alone in the contest; teams from Europe and South America are also interested, which means Rangers may receive further offers.
Rangers have recently recruited Mohamed Diomande as a new midfielder,
and Philippe Clement appears to be willing to let Cifuentes leave.
The Ecuadorian only joined Rangers from LAFC this summer,
in a transfer that took months to complete and cost roughly £1.2 million.
Cifuentes had flourished in MLS, and Michael Beale touted him as a ‘exciting’ signing for Rangers, but it hasn’t worked out.
Cifuentes has played only nine Scottish Premiership games this season and 20 overall.
With Diomande already on board, the 24-year-old appears to have less of a part in the future, and Rangers may let him go less than six months later.
It’s incredible that Rangers invested so much effort in signing Cifuentes and are now willing to let him go.
Perhaps Clement doesn’t see a role for him or simply does not rate him;
we have still to see why Beale was so adamant about signing him.
Cifuentes’ departure would be Clement’s second Beale signing, following Sam Lammers’ transfer to Utrecht.
Cifuentes has not been seen in a Rangers uniform since December 14th,
and it appears that his time is up, with a move to Turkey on the cards.
Caykur Rizespor is now fifth in the Turkish Super Lig table and has genuine hopes of qualifying for Europe this season,
with Cifuentes poised to join the fight for a top-four finish.
