‘He Doesn’t Do Enough’ – Michael Stewart Goes in on Celtic Star

Football pundit Michael Stewart has provided a critical analysis of midfielder Paulo Bernardo’s performance and overall contribution to the team following Celtic’s thrilling 1-0 victory over Ross County.

Although Bernardo’s play has improved recently, scoring some significant goals prior to the winter break, Stewart voiced doubts about Bernardo’s compatibility with Brendan Rodgers’ system.

In his evaluation on BBC Sportsound, Stewart was frank: “Paulo Bernardo‘s gone off.” To be honest, a lot has been said about him

getting settled in and looking great. He isn’t doing enough for me, I feel like. He doesn’t appear to be athletic and doesn’t seem to play

the game very much. Although he has recently scored a few, I don’t see it.

This scathing assessment calls into question Bernardo’s position on the team and his capacity to consistently affect outcomes.

But it’s important to consider Bernardo’s performance in the context of the Celtic team as a whole. Bernardo has been an important

midfield player in lieu of Reo Hatate, who was hurt and is currently traveling with Japan for the Asian Cup. His contributions have

been invaluable to the team, especially his big goals. His brilliant goal in the derby before the winter break, which highlighted his

potential and value to the team, was his standout moment.

Stewart’s remarks, however, draw attention to a perceived deficiency in a few areas, such as energy. “He doesn’t seem to have an eye

for a pass” is a statement that highlights Bernardo’s versatility and performance in a demanding position. Although Bernardo has

shown he can rise to the occasion—albeit in a different way than the Japanese midfielder—filling Hatate’s shoes is no easy task.

“I am surprised Brendan Rodgers is giving him so much game time,” Stewart continued. He doesn’t seem like the Brendan Rodgers

kind to me. He doesn’t appear to have a good passing eye, so it’s difficult for me to pinpoint his primary strengths in the game.

He is not a poor player by any means, but I don’t think he stands out or performs exceptionally well when I watch him. I fail to see

what he has to offer the team. This point of view broadens the ongoing discussion regarding Bernardo’s contribution to and influence

at Celtic.

It is indisputable that Bernardo has been a more successful midfield option than the other options, even in the face of these criticisms.

It has been impressive to watch him step up in Hatate’s absence and find the net when it matters most. Although the matchup with

Ross County should have been easier, Bernardo’s continued improvement and contributions must not be disregarded.
