Following the Rangers legend’s decision to end his playing career, Steven Gerrard has spearheaded the tributes to Steven Davis.

After an amazing 20-year career that included stints at Ibrox, Southampton, Aston Villa, Fulham, and a record-breaking 140 caps for

Northern Ireland, the 39-year-old midfielder announced his retirement this evening.

He is now the most-capped international player in the UK as a result.

A devastating cruciate knee ligament injury interrupted Davis’s campaign last season, but it was revealed in the summer that he will

continue to use the club’s facilities for his recuperation in the hopes of returning to the field. But with his choice to retire, he has

essentially conceded defeat in that regard.

After Michael Beale was fired this season, he took over as interim manager of the team, and he hasn’t ruled out returning to the Ibrox coaching role.

Davis has received a ton of supportive letters from former teammates and other football players since the announcement.

Following a lengthy, heartfelt social media post from the man himself, Steven Gerrard led the responses with two heart emojis.
