The Cowboys’ first priority in the 2024 NFL offseason is to address
In this year’s Wild Card game, not much went right for the Dallas Cowboys against the Green Bay Packers. Dallas needs a new
quarterback who never throws interceptions, a new running back, pass rushers who can really finish a rush, and a total makeover at
linebacker and in the secondary if you reduce the team’s summer needs to that one play.
It isn’t about which position group the Cowboys should target this offseason if you want to get honest about what they really need. The
most important thing the Cowboys need to do in 2024 is reevaluate their offensive and defensive
schemes in order to find a means to gain control of the line of scrimmage.
It’s an easy idea to grasp. A team that plays strong up front usually positions itself to win. That’s how clubs like the Green Bay Packers
can score 48 points against a team that is clearly superior to them, even in hostile playoff circumstances.
Green Bay was unable to accomplish the same thing against the San Francisco 49ers for the same reason. A team like the 49ers, who
have exceptional talent, becomes almost unstoppable when they dedicate themselves to controlling the line of scrimmage.
So how can the Cowboys get to a position where they consistently dominate the field every week? It has nothing to do with any
position group or free agent signing. It’s about redefining Dallas’s flagging identity into a successful one.
