FRISCO: The NFC Championship game in San Francisco on Sunday will not include the Dallas Cowboys, but a former guard may.

Prior to Detroit’s Sunday game at Levi’s Stadium against the 49ers, former Cowboys lineman

Matt Farniok was added to the Lions practice squad on Tuesday.

After slipping behind rookies Asim Richards and T.J. Bass on the depth chart, Farniok was released by the Cowboys this past August.

The Cowboys had selected Farniok in the seventh round of the 2021 draft. Farniok had trouble blocking passes while he was with

Dallas; according to Pro Football Focus, he had an overall grade of 39.1, scoring 41.7 in run blocking and 31.4 in pass blocking.

Before being cut in November, he was selected by the Bears in September and placed to their practice squad. He was added to the

Lions practice squad in December, but was cut on January 5 and then re-signed by Detroit on Tuesday. Before the championship

game, Detroit’s offensive line is battling with injuries. Center Frank Ragnow and guard Jonah Jackson are both officially listed as

questionable for Sunday’s game. In the Lions’ victory over the Buccaneers last weekend, Ragnow sustained a sprained knee and

Jackson is suffering with a slight meniscus tear.
