Eight possible candidates for the Saints’ next offensive coordinator

Pete Carmichael, the New Orleans Saints’ offensive coordinator for the past 18 years, has been let go.

The announcement comes after two difficult offensive seasons with the retirement of Sean Payton as head coach.

General Manager Mickey Loomis must now find a replacement for Carmichael,

who will hopefully achieve further success with the great offensive players he has assembled.

Here are eight people that could replace Pete Carmichael.

Jerrod Johnson – Houston Texans’ quarterbacks coach

Johnson helped the Houston Texans’ rookie quarterback CJ Stroud win a playoff game in

his first year as quarterback coach.

He’s a rising offensive coordinator contender who was named

the #1 offensive coordinator choice by NOF.com on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old might bring some much-needed zing to the passing game and

could perhaps combine well with veteran quarterback Derek Carr.

Klint Kubiak, the San Francisco 49ers’ passing game coordinator

Kubiak has emerged as the most likely next Kyle Shanahan product to become a coordinator.

He was the Minnesota Vikings’ offensive coordinator in 2021,

but now returns to the coaching ranks after a year in San Francisco.

He had previously interviewed  for the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator job along with Greg Olson.

Joe Bleymaier, the Kansas City Chiefs’ passing game coordinator

Bleymaier, 41, represents Andy Reid’s coaching tree.

He began his career as an offensive analyst with the Kansas City Chiefs and rose to

the position of passing game coordinator while winning two Super Bowls.

Andy Reid has praised him for his inventiveness and innovation,

and he is a strong candidate for several offensive coordinator positions across the league.

Ronald Curry is the New Orleans Saints’ passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The only internal contender on the list is beloved assistant coach Ronald Curry.

Curry has been with the squad since 2016 and has been seen as

an energizing spark in an often bleak and depressing offensive.

He seems to be adored by his locker room and  fanbase and has eight seasons with Dennis Allen already.

If the Saints want to keep it in-house, expect it to be Ronald Curry.

Tanner Engstrand, Detroit Lions’ Passing Game Coordinator

Engstrand has been referred to as the Detroit Lions’ Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson’s right-hand man.

Johnson’s offense has been fantastic this season,

and Engstrand has played a key role in that success.

He deserved a promotion for a variety of reasons, but most importantly,

making Jared Goff appear like an MVP is practically witchcraft.

Zac Robinson, Los Angeles Rams’ passing game coordinator

The Saints could absolutely turn to Zac Robinson for some McVay magic.

The 37-year-old has been a key component of McVay’s offense since 2019 and

is a top-four candidate for the Saints position, according to Sports Illustrated.

Moving forward, the youthful Robinson is a very likeable prospect.

Brian Hartline – Ohio State’s Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach

The single college coach on this list is from North New Orleans, also known as Ohio State University.

Hartline is one of the Big Ten’s top offensive coordinators and could land his first NFL job next season.

Perhaps reuniting Chris Olave with his former offensive coordinator is exactly what this offense needs.

Greg Olson, Seattle Seahawks’ quarterbacks coach

Olson is one of the most experienced coaches on this list, having worked for eight different NFL teams.

He was the Raiders’ offensive coordinator for four years (2018-2021),

although he also served as an offensive assistant for McVay’s Rams in 2022.

If you’re looking for experience, Olson  is the move.
