Dallas Cowboys fans hoped that this week’s focus would be on the NFC championship game.

Instead, the team’s focus has shifted to the offseason, as it continues to prepare for the future.

Four teams remain in contention for the Super Bowl,

thus the other 28 are already preparing for the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Cowboys need to fill several positions, including linebacker, offensive lineman,

interior defensive line, and wide receiver.

For the time being, we’ll focus on where a well-known player is expected to enter the market.

Tyron Smith, a future Hall of Fame left tackle, completed the final year of an eight-year deal inked in 2014.

It’s uncertain whether Dallas will try to keep the five-time All-Pro.

Dallas could consider moving Tyler Smith over, given how well he played left tackle as a rookie.

However, the second-year pro from Tulsa was recently awarded a second-team all-pro guard.

Perhaps it is wiser to leave what isn’t broken.

Mel Kiper Jr., an ESPN NFL Draft Analyst, has mocked the Cowboys’ offensive tackle at 24.

Jordan Morgan

Kiper’s newest mock draft (subscription required) has

the Cowboys picking Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan at number 24.

Morgan, a 6-foot-5, 325-pound tackle, decided to return to school for his final year in 2023.

Morgan started 10 games at left tackle in 2022 and was awarded First Team All-Pac 12 by the Associated Press.

He concluded his undergraduate career as First Team All-Pac 12 and

was named to the watch lists for the Outland and Wuerffel awards.

In his mock draft analysis, Kiper cites Tyron Smith’s age (33), and with his contract expiring,

the Cowboys should look ahead.

“Morgan is one of my favorite pass-protectors in this class,” he said.

“I admire how he uses his feet and performs twists and stunts.

He started 35 games at left tackle in college, making him an ideal candidate to replace Tyron Smith. Mel Kiper

Of course, there would be a lot of controversy and discussion over this choice.

Should the Cowboys go in this path, whether it’s Morgan or another tackle on the roster they are confident in?

The organization might consider bringing Smith back on

a one-year contract and allowing a young lineman to develop behind the eight-time Pro Bowl player.

Adonai Mitchell.

Morgan’s pick means that the Cowboys will pass over other intriguing talents,

like as Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, who Kiper has rated at 28.

Mitchell, who stood 6-4 and weighed 196 pounds,

had 55 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns to help Texas reach the college football playoffs.

Mitchell’s size, quickness, and separation might help Dallas’ offense achieve greater success in the red zone.

Kingsley Suamataia

Another tackle candidate to watch is BYU’s Kingsley Suamataia,

who was selected one round after Dallas at 25th overall by Green Bay.

Suamataia, who stands 6-6 and weighs 325 pounds, allowed only three sacks last season.

However, what sticks out the most is his versatility, having started 23 games over the last two seasons,

12 at right tackle and 11 at left tackle.

Let’s assume Smith is kept. His injury history is always a concern, as is right tackle Terence Steele,

who tore his ACL in 2022 and missed four more games in 2023.

A flexible and highly regarded young tackle would make a significant contribution to the offensive line.

When it comes to drafting offensive line help, the Cowboys’ front office cannot be underestimated.

However, if Tyron Smith returns, it may be more beneficial to utilize the selection on a player

who the team believes can make an instant impact,

especially given the organization’s belief that the window remains open.
