The Bears’ defense, however, hasn’t gotten much coverage. And the most likely explanation for that is that the defense, which shocked

observers by finishing among the best in the league after acquiring defensive end Montez Sweat at the trade deadline, was exceptional

throughout the latter portion of the season.

bookends at the 2023 trade deadline, with Sweat then thriving as the Chicago Bears’ lead rusher and Young now competing for a

Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers.”

In the months preceding the deadline, Chicago assessed both Young and Sweat as part of its attempt to strengthen its pass rush. The

Bears, who have the option to spend more money in free agency to add a pass-rusher like Young, awarded Sweat a four-year, $98

million contract deal.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, Young was chosen by Washington with the second overall choice. The Ohio State defender quickly made an

impact, being selected to the Pro Bowl and winning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Nevertheless, he was dealt to the 49ers at the trade deadline last season for a 2024 third-round selection pick due to performance-

limiting injuries sustained over the course of the following two seasons and a purported inability to adjust to the new Commanders

defensive strategy.

Young has looked revitalized and performed well since the trade, much like Sweat in Chicago. This next Sunday, he’ll be playing in the

address some roster gaps by entering the free agent market.

Since joining the 49ers, Young has only had great things to say about the organization, praising the squad for having a winning

culture.

When questioned in November about the distinction between San Francisco and Washington, he responded, “Culture.” I understand

The Bears have been putting a lot of effort into creating that kind of culture in Chicago, and Young might play a significant role in

laying the groundwork for the historical team to have a successful winning legacy. If the reports are accurate, the front office of the
