Barry Ferguson sprang off his couch in excitement when a Rangers player scored a goal against Hibs.
Barry Ferguson acknowledges that he has great admiration for Cyriel Dessers’ perseverance in making the most of his Rangers career
despite criticism since joining in the summer.
And after hitting a beautiful goal against Hibs on Wednesday night, the Gers striker even pushed Ferguson
off of his couch out of pure joy.
This season, Dessers has been the target of well-documented criticism due to his lack of quality and incapacity to seize significant
opportunities when they present themselves.
But under manager Philippe Clement, the £4.5 million Nigerian signed from Cremonese in the summer has made great strides, and
his goal total at Rangers is also nothing to laugh at.
Dessers is clearly improving at the Ibrox club as he has six goals and three assists in his previous 11 league appearances. And that’s in
spite of the fact that Fabio Silva’s loan arrival has made him compete for the No. 9 striker place.
You can see that things have turned around for Dessers since Rangers supporters have a song dedicated to the 29-year-old that was
performed in the midweek at Easter Road’s away end.
Ferguson has always been fervently hoping Dessers does well in a Light Blue jersey and is adoring his redemption story. Additionally,
the 45-year-old lauded Dessers’ dedication to the cause in his most recent Daily Record essay,
saying he believes it will help him succeed at Rangers.
Barry Ferguson on Cyriel Dessers
“After months of wondering if the big man is ever going to cut it at Ibrox as a center forward,
they’re (the fans) now calling him CD9,” wrote Barry Ferguson.
Alright, there is a hint of humor there. I don’t think Dessers is being compared to the original Cristiano Ronaldo in a serious way these
days. However, I support it because I think it demonstrates the love and support that the public has for a man who, in my opinion, is
eager to establish himself as a Rangers striker.
I have a great deal of respect for the man because, since he joined the team in the summer, I have watched many people falter under
the load he has been carrying about. I would even go so far as to say that.
