Ronald Powell, a former NFL linebacker, passed away, the NFL Players Association confirmed. His age was thirty-two.

The reason of death was not stated. The New Orleans Saints selected Powell, a former standout player at the University of Florida,

in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. In 14 games during the 2014 NFL season, he recorded two tackles during his one-season

stint with the Saints. The NFLPA Formers Players Services released a statement on Tuesday that read, “Today we mourn the loss

of Ronald Powell – a father, a brother, and a son who was loved and cherished by so many.” To everyone who knew Ronald,

we offer our condolences. #RIP. Powell (6-foot-3, 237 pounds) joined the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015

following a season in New Orleans, however he did not play in any games. In September 2016, he signed on to the Chicago

Bears practice squad; however, in December of the same year, the organization dropped him.

Powell signed with the Seattle Seahawks in December 2016 after being cut by the Bears, however he never made

a game appearance. In August of 2017, Seattle released him.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Powell was the top-ranked prospect in Florida Gators football history when he joined

the 2010 recruiting class under former head coach Urban Meyer. After playing in 35 games over three seasons for the Gators,

Powell finished his junior year with 79 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks. He then declared for the 2014 NFL Draft.
