Time is running out: BBC journalist discusses a last-minute Shankland trade

Time is running out: BBC journalist discusses a last-minute Shankland trade following a Rangers “body blow.”

Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland may be heading to Rangers, according to Kheredine Idessane,

following Abdallah Sima’s lengthy injury layoff.

The journalist described the 22-year-old forward’s thigh injury he suffered while

traveling with Senegal for the Africa Cup of Nations as a “body blow” for Philippe Clement

in a post on the BBC Sport website on Wednesday, January 24.

He said that the 28-year-old Jambos forward may fill the vacuum left by Sima,

since the Scotland international has been strongly linked to the Gers throughout the January transfer window.

“Another body blow for the Belgian, just when he (Clement) thought his treatment room might be clearing,

” Idessane stated. “One of his top players and talents is out “long term” due to an injury

sustained while serving for Senegal on the international stage.

Sima’s objectives must be changed right away. Although Fabio Silva is already here on loan from Wolves,

he doesn’t seem to be the kind of player who steals goals.

In contrast, Lawrence Shankland is. The Hearts forward has been strongly connected to a transfer out of Tynecastle.

Not because he’s notcontent there—quite the contrary.

Mostly because Celtic and Rangers could both use a bit more firepower.

out of time. I don’t think the last week will go as well as the previous three.

Many curious spectators have been taken aback by the Rangers’ failure to make an offer to solidify

their interest in Shankland thus far this month.

That might be due to a lack of funds after Michael Beale was permitted to spend a substantial

amount of the money on players during the summer transfer window.

He’s been the best forward in the nation this season, thus the Gers should definitely aim to

close this deal if there is any money left in the bank account.

The Scotland international, who has scored 18 goals in 29 games this season,

is at the top of his game and might give Clement the firepower he needs to make a credible title challenge.

It remains to be seen if the Light Blues would attempt to sign him during this window,

but with Sima’s injury they most definitely need to bring in another attacker.
