The initial 41-man USA Basketball team for the upcoming Olympics in Paris has been revealed; however, by the time the Games arrive

in late July, the roster will have been reduced to 12. Even though the 33-year-old has expressed interest in the past, Draymond Green

of the Golden State Warriors is one name that is not on the list.

With a roster filled with celebrities hoping to exact revenge for their disastrous World Cup campaign that left them without even a

Bronze Medal, Green’s absence is but a small matter. Stephen Curry, the star player for the Golden State Warriors,

Kevin Durant, and LeBron James lead the team.

Golden State Warriors’ forward Draymond Green will miss the opportunity to win three-straight Olympic Gold Medals for Team USA

At the Rio Olympics in 2016 and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Green assisted Team USA in winning gold. In contrast to Durant, who

participated in both Gold Medal winning teams, Green will not get the chance to win in Paris for a third time in a row.

Due to two separate suspensions, Green’s Warriors season has been significantly disrupted. Before making his comeback in Golden

State’s most recent game against the Memphis Grizzlies, the four-time All-Star was placed on

an indefinite suspension that lasted 16 games.

It’s unclear at this time how much Green’s recent suspensions affected his non-selection or if he withdrew himself from the process

voluntarily. Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Warriors, will lead Team USA once more.

Curry is anticipated to return to the national team after a ten-year absence and play in his first Olympics, but Chris Paul, another

veteran from Golden State, is also included in the 41-man roster. Since the 2012 Summer Olympics, the 38-year-old has not competed for Team USA.

Naturally, Klay Thompson was also left off the roster, which only served to strengthen the theory that, despite competing for Team

USA in 2016, he may represent The Bahamas in the Olympics.

The possibility of Thompson representing The Bahamas was brought up by NBA Insider Marc Stein back in August, but the 33-year-

old would need to receive the same kind of permission from FIBA that Eric Gordon did before the World Cup last year.

While the Warriors continue to struggle with the tragic loss of assistant coach Dejan Milojević, Curry, Paul, Green, Thompson, Kerr,

and company will definitely be thinking far, far away from the Olympics.
